I’ve heard of hour waits and in the hot Arizona sun, that is no fun, especially with families with small children. Plus you don’t really have the time to take pictures, even with the private tours there, because you’re rushed. There are usually a lot of people waiting. So we decided to go with Horseshoe Bend Tours to visit the exclusive Horseshoe Bend Slot Canyon.

What to Expect With Horseshoe Bend Slot Canyon Tours
With extended family, we had 15 people on our tour ranging from grandparents to 4-year-olds. You’ll ride in this open-air vehicle (which was a real crowd pleaser for the younger ones) from Page to Horseshoe Bend Slot Canyon which is on Navajo land. This is a protected Slot Canyon and Horseshoe Bend Tours is the only company allowed at this particular Slot Canyon.
You’ll do some off-roading which is a fun adventure and get some extraordinary views. Once you arrive, you’ll park about 1/4 mile away from the entrance to the Slot Canyon. It’s an easy walk, but I recommend wearing tennis shoes or closed-toes shoes, because that sand can get hot.
You get plenty of time to walk through the Slot Canyon. No one is rushing you as you stroll at a leisurely pace and take all the pictures you want.
Our tour guide was fantastic! Your tour guide will talk as much or as little as you’d like, explaining what’s next, giving you history on what you’re exploring, or answering all your questions. One of the best things about this tour is the privacy. Horseshoe Bend Tours space out their groups, so that you get the canyon to yourselves. You’re not getting loads of people in your pictures and can have the space to get that perfect shot.
The Slot Canyon Tour is approximately 2 1/2 hours including travel time. Once you come out through the other side, you walk back through the canyon and head back to Page. There is also an option to add on the Horseshoe Bend Overlook, which we didn’t do, but is just as breathtaking. You can do Horseshoe Bend on your own without a guide.
Can You Visit Antelope Canyon Without A Tour Guide?
No, you can’t visit Antelope Canyon without a tour guide. So no matter what you do, you’ll be paying at least $50-$60 a person (including children) unless you go in January, which is considered off-season for some. Antelope Canyon and the Slot Canyons are protected by Navajo Parks and Recreation and only authorized tour companies can take people. You can’t just hike there on your own.

Are Slot Canyon Tours Worth It?
The Slot Canyon Tour for Horseshoe Bend Tours is $90 for adults (ages 12 and up) and $65 for children ages 6-11. They usually recommend age 6, because the ride can get a little bumpy, however they can make a special exception if your child is with you and rides in the middle. They would also pay the $65. You can also book a completely private tour for your group. For parties of 6 or less: $800 and for parties of 7 or more: $1000 (15 max.)
